St Joseph Catholic School

Joey's Long Transition to School Program

Joey's works in partnership with students, parents and teachers to foster a positive start and transition to school for children and families.

Joey's Transition Program

The Joey's Transition is available for children who are enrolled at St Joseph’s School. The children attend Joeys for the last two terms before starting school. It is an important chance for children to make the transition to school.

They become familiar with the school and get to meet their classmates before they start school.  It is also an important time for parents who get the chance to get to know each other and build relationships before school starts.

The aim of the Joey's Program is to ensure students transitioning to school:

Have a sense of belonging - children feel safe, secure, supported and respected in their new school environment.

Have a sense of wellbeing - children feel happy, confident and optimistic about learning at school and social interaction.

Are confident learners - children are active participants in learning, they experiment, explore and try out new ideas through carefully designed play opportunities that help them to be brave in taking risks and working collaboratively.

Are effective communicators - children interact with and initiate conversation with peers and adults for a range of purposes.
